Record Store Day is basically the best day of the year next to Christmas for music-lovers. It's a day dedicated to celebrating independently owned record stores across the country – an industry that is shrinking as we move into the digital age. This sacred day is all about celebrating music as an art form by issuing special vinyl and CD releases, as well as promotional products that are pumped out just for that one glorious day of the year. This includes the uber-sought after colored vinyl, as well as remastered recordings, sweet digi packs, and posters a plenty.

This year Record Store Day will take place on April 21st, and I for one, couldn't be more excited. As I've mentioned in some of my previous posts, I work at the local record store,
Pure Pop, in downtown Burlington. I'll be spending my Saturday manning the register, checking out an array of customers ranging from homeless men to teeny-boppers. I can't wait to get my hands on virtually everything that passes through the store on that one day of madness. Last year, people lined up around the block hours before we opened to get a spot in line and a chance to score the album they've been waiting for. My co-worker, Willie, will be in charge of crow control this year, because believe it or not, someone needs to keep those music-lovin'-goonies in order.

This special day isn't just about pushing products either. Across the country, intimate performances, in-store appearances, and special signings will flood the modest homes of record stores everywhere. Aside from catching a sweet performance, it's truly a day to promote and support independent record stores everywhere. It's also a great way to get your hands on some of the newest releases. I'm most interested in purchasing the following. I wonder if employee discounts apply to RSD? I sure hope so.

Plus a bunch more but doing screen shots was getting annoying. Check out the full list here. And be sure to stop by Pure Pop on the 21st if you can handle a long line and some crazy locals. Also, a heads up to all you Phisheads out there. On the 20th, we'll be releasing (for the first time ever) Junta on vinyl! Collectors edition!!! TWO VERSIONS! We're talkin' bout deluxe gatefold vinyl 12", 180 gram. For more information, check it out
Pure Pop's site.
